Providence Alaska Medical Center — Referral Hub for Aleutians East

The Aleutians East Borough (Sand Point, King Cove, Cold Bay, False Pass) sits on a chain of remote Aleutian islands accessible only by ferry and small plane. Comprehensive autism evaluations require flying to Anchorage (~800+ miles). Providence Alaska Medical Center is the statewide referral hub. Community Health Aides in village clinics can initiate screening and help coordinate Anchorage referrals.

One of the most remote borough governments in the US. All specialist care requires air travel to Anchorage. Telehealth is the only realistic ongoing option for most services.

Alaska's Part C Early Intervention program serves children birth to 3 across the state including the Aleutians East Borough. Given the extreme remoteness, services are delivered primarily through telehealth and family coaching with periodic in-person visits when travel is feasible. FREE for eligible children.
