Hidalgo County is New Mexico's southwesternmost county — very small in population, bordering Arizona and Mexico. Lordsburg has no local specialist services. Families seeking autism evaluations must use telehealth through UNM Children's Hospital or travel to Silver City (Grant County, ~60 miles north), El Paso TX (~110 miles east), or Tucson AZ (~170 miles west). Telehealth is the recommended first step.
