In this episode, we’re talking about what it really looks like to parent a child with profound autism when the answers aren’t always clear and the road to finding them can be exhausting. We share a very real week in our family—from an unexpected reaction to a new PRN medication that led to an eight-hour meltdown, to the complicated emotions of needing your spouse to come home early, to navigating a sedated barium enema and back-to-back medical appointments. We also talk about the hope that comes from building a medical team that listens, keeps looking, and understands that autism can make even a “simple” medical procedure incredibly difficult. When you’re an autism parent who feels overwhelmed, exhausted, or discouraged by the constant search for answers, we hope this episode reminds you that you don’t have to have it all figured out. Sometimes love looks like simply continuing to look for answers—because love doesn’t give up.
