← All state waivers

Free tool

What should I actually do about my state’s waiver?

Five questions. No sign-up, nothing sent anywhere. You get back how your state’s system genuinely works and what to do about it — because “apply early and wait your turn” is correct in only one of the five systems states run, and following it in the others wastes years.

What this is not: an eligibility decision. Only your state can make that, and we will not pretend otherwise. This tells you how the system works and what to ask for.

Optional. It changes which programme applies.

Not the same as autism. Several states gate on this.

Nothing you enter is sent anywhere. This runs entirely in your browser.

Where this comes from

We read the waiver rules for all fifty states and the District of Columbia from state agency sources, and corrected our own data for forty of them in the process. The five systems this tool sorts states into came out of that reading rather than being imposed on it. See the full comparison and the taxonomy.

Waiting lists and eligibility rules change constantly. If something here is out of date, tell us and we will fix it.
